Night Cycler

Speaker 1: Please introduce Night Cycler.

Speaker 2: Welcome to Night Cycler and the pigeon that explodes.

Speaker 1: One day, well, not one day. Night Cycler would ride his bike home from basketball practice. And, but then, once the season got going, it got dark by the time practice ended and Night Cycler wore his black Chicago Bulls sweatshirt, and a bike helmet that he bought with his own money ’cause back in those days, people didn’t even always wear bike helmets.

Speaker 2: Okay.

Speaker 1: And his parents said, “You need a flashing red light when you ride your bike at night.” But he was embarrassed. He didn’t want to have a… the only one with a flashing red light. “Well, then you should wear a reflective orange, like vest.” He didn’t want to look like a construction worker on his bike. “Well,” he wouldn’t listen. And do you think his parents should let him ride his bike like that?

Speaker 2: No.

Speaker 1: But he did anyway. And so, he was riding back from basketball practice on the

Speaker 1: And then cars would go by and he was like, “Well, they can see me. They have headlights.” But then Night Cycler’s at school the next day eating lunch, and thinking about, okay, after school they got basketball practice. And a boy on the team says, “Hey, Night Cycler, what were you thinking?” “What are you talking about?” said Night Cycler. “My parents were driving home basketball practice and we almost ran over you. And by the time we saw you, you were right behind, beside us wearing all black.” “We almost ran you over like a pancake.” And Night Cycler was like, “Well, I didn’t know that.” And they’re like, “Yeah, you were dressed in black-” on your bicycle at night. What were you thinking?” And he didn’t say anything, but he was thinking, “Well, didn’t your parents have headlights?” Yeah, but the cars still can’t see you dressed all black with headlights. And then he learned the flashing red light is a good idea. The reflective construction vest, which is not just for construction, it’s for sports, is a good idea. And even better, maybe not ride his bike at night. Or even go on the sidewalk.

Speaker 2: Yeah.

Speaker 1: The end.
